Keeping a useful pocket notebook
A pocket notebook works best when using it feels easy. It does not need a perfect layout or a special subject. A shopping reminder can share a page with the shape of a leaf, a sentence overheard in a public square, or a question to look up at home.
Leave room around entries so that later thoughts can join them. Dates help connect notes to a season or a journey. A simple index on the last page is enough if you want to find recurring subjects without turning the notebook into a filing system.
At the end of a week, read a handful of pages. Underline something you want to explore and let the rest remain unfinished. The value is in noticing and returning, not in filling every line.
