Looking at the sky before a walk
The sky offers a changing background to everyday places. From an open window, notice the direction in which clouds are moving and the difference between the light above rooftops and the light near the horizon. These observations can make a familiar view feel new.
A small record is more interesting than a confident prediction. Write down cloud shapes, wind in the trees and how warm or cool the air feels in shade. Compare your notes after the walk. For decisions about weather safety, use an official local forecast.
On days when staying indoors is the comfortable choice, repeat the observation from the same window. A steady viewpoint makes small changes easier to see. Rain on a sill and reflections in wet pavement are subjects of their own.
